Shanna Crump-Owens, Director of UB’s CSTEP, was selected by Upstate New York Transplant Services (UNYTS) to be recognized as the Hometown Hero of the Game this past Sunday for her volunteer work with Upstate New York Transplant Services during the past 4 years. In addition to being featured in a promo highlighting her volunteer work during the Bills game, she was also provided with pre-game access to sideline activities and to the heated and catered M & T suite. Shanna earned this honor, in part, due to winning a 3-year grant that funds a service learning program in CSTEP. Approximately a dozen CSTEP students at UB are trained to be community health educators, who then work in underrepresented communities to educate people about organ donation and to secure organ donation commitments.
